Hi all, I’m helping a close friend of mine sell their Datsun Bluebird.
The car was previously run at auction, which I have linked to and copied the information from. The car didn’t bring what we wanted at the time, so it expired without meeting reserve. However, we’d still like to sell the car as long as we can get reasonable money for it, and are not interested in joining the month-long queue to list the car on Bring a Trailer.
The car runs and drives super well, and attracts positive attention where ever we take it. It has been an amazing car to own and enjoy. This car has been legitimately imported, and has a clean title in the seller’s name! Please view the expired auction listing for the driving demo and an extensive photo set. Any questions? Feel free to reach out! Here are the details:
This 1970 Datsun SSS 1800 Bluebird Coupe is located in Oakland California and currently shows 88,480 kilometers, with the total being unknown. This a true JDM car that was never sold in the United States. This particular car was imported into the U.S. in 2014 through the Port of Long Beach and is currently titled in California. The importer noted that this SSS Coupe was built by RH Factory in Japan along with the help of Kameari Racing.
The car wears a BRE inspired paint job with race livery. All of the trim and brightwork are said to be in original condition. This car features a Super Sonic front grille, and a BRE style air dam below. All the glass is said to be original to the car except for the front windshield, and the rear glass still has its factory defroster. The owner claims this car to be one of just a handful 1800 SSS Coupes in America.
The interior of this Bluebird wears its original dash a with an added aftermarket gauge cluster. Up front is a factory SSS Bluebird woodgrain steering wheel. The front seats are Bride Racing with, each with a Sabelt racing harness, and the rear rear seats are original, and have the ability to be folded down. The door panels are original to the car, although the headliner has been changed from off-white to black, which the seller reports to be in very good condition. The factory woodgrain center console is present along with a factory boot and shift knob. The red and black Coco floor mats further contribute to the period-correct look.
Under the hood is an 1800cc engine putting out roughly 180 horsepower to the wheels. The engine build consist of street pistons, a 78° cam shaft, a big valve head assembly, and race valve guides, all built by Kameari. A porting and polishing of the head was also carried out. The car is running dual 44 Mikuni carburetors tuned by Sidedraft Specialties. This car has a new header, and sends exhaust through a custom stainless exhaust system with a rear exit. Cooling comes from a 3-row radiator. The car has been swapped with a 71B 5 speed transmission with an OS Giken twin disc clutch. The rear end features an R180 LSD with drum brakes while the front brakes have been upgraded to Wilwood discs, mated to a factory power brake booster. The wheels are Work Equip 3-piece wheels wrapped in newer Yokohama tires sizes measuring a 165mm section width, and the car now features a fully adjustable coil over suspension setup by Cusco.
This SSS Coupe was featured on the Speedhunters online magazine before the current owner added the front bumper and air dam and removed the front oil cooler. Additional photos along with a driving video have been provided below.
